SHOP WINDOW

In the winter of 1933 the Baron Federico Berzeviczy-Pallavicini stepped into the house at the Kohlmarkt for the first time. The artist, whom Josef Hoffmann once described as “the last romantic”, married Klara Demel and from then on played a large part in shaping the image of the Viennese institution that is the Demel. During the war he emigrated to Italy and the US; there he worked as an artist and after his return he immediately started staging a series of shop window displays the like of which Vienna had never seen before.
